From April on, the motors manufactured by Metalcorte Motores will leave the company with a Heavy-Metals-Free Stamp. The Certification adapts the guidelines laid down by the European market which has extended the veto to the entry of products on the continent containing elements that may contaminate the environment. The main prohibited substances are: lead, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, and mercury. In addition to the European Union, other countries are beginning to veto goods containing these elements as well.
According to the director Gilberto Londero, of Metalcorte Motores, Europe`s goal is to achieve “clean” disposition of such products. “Contamination problems do not occur while the motors are under service. They do occur at the moment they are disposed of”, states the Director.
The Stamp adoption process by Metalcorte began in June last year. In addition to the creation of this personalized certificate – which will be in Portuguese and Spanish versions – a work task in conjunction with suppliers was necessary to adjust the substances used by them in their products.

2007 Metalcorte Christmas Party
Like Christmas, whose essence is joy and a childlike exhilaration, the Christmas Party of Metalcorte Group, held in Pavilhões da Festa da Uva (Grape Festival Facilities) on December 16, was also animated by this spirit. The event was attended by more than 5,6 thousand people among employees and their families. The Group’s President Director, Osvaldo Voges, highlighted in his address: “ In this Party, we are enjoying the fruits of the efforts we have made in our plants and in S.E.R. Caxias. We have built up this Party throughout the 365 days of the year”.
The children had a great time with inflatable toys, wooden-leg angels, ludic makeup, and activities guided by a cheerful master of ceremonies. These activities included a grimaces contest and dance. Even adults participated in the activities, went up on the stage and danced in a competition that the public joyfully helped decide the winners.
Then Santa Claus arrived in a sleigh pulled by dwarves at the sound of the Cristóvão de Mendonza School`s band. This was followed by the Santa sitting on his throne with the children lined up to make him their Christmas requests.
To end the Party in grand style, a raffle was held among the employees participating in the event: 30 liters of fuel at Voges Gas Station, DVDs, TV sets, microwave ovens, and bikes. However, those who were not lucky enough to win the prizes, did not leave the Party without anything. Metalcorte`s employees received their End-of-the-Year Basket with groceries, and their children received toys.

To the director of Metalcorte Motores, Gilbero Londero, the certification adds to other certifications already achieved by the company, such as the certification from oil industries, which recognizes the quality and high technology of Metalcorte electric motors, the number 2 largest producer in Latin America.
Metalcorte and Henrique Emílio Meyer School
Metalcorte and the Public School Henrique Emílio Meyer, both located in the Exposição District, have developed a partnership relationship. On August 10, for example, an event was organized to unveil the plaque marking the remodeling in the sports gym and theatre of the school, both to be made by Metalcorte. The school’s band, Meyer Band, performed during the ceremony, which was attended by the Metalcorte`s Chairman, Osvaldo Voges, and by the School`s Principal, Janice Moraes. Music is, by the way, another partnership between the school and the company, as Metalcorte funds the band instructor.
This good neighborhood policy towards Emílio Meyer School was developed by Osvaldo, who pointed out the importance of carrying out the proposed remodeling works during his speech at the ceremony. As a citizen who believes in education, the Metalcorte`s chairman is convinced of the importance of offering help and has left the doors open for new partnerships. Osvaldo emphasized that many of the 1,700 students of the school may, in the future, help the company by integrating its workforce.
The contact between the Henrique Emílio Meyer School and Metalcorte was first made by the chairman’s assistant, Rubem Citton, who was in attendance in the plaque unveiling ceremony. In addition to him and also representing the company were the Foundry’s Unit Production Manager, Moacir Magnabosco, the coordinator of the Environmental, Occupational Safety and Medicine Sector, Marcelo Nehme, the analyst of Environmental Engineering, Carina Quissini, the Environmental technician, Júlio Slovinscki, and the Communication coordinator of Metalcorte`s Group, Leandra Sartori.

Perimetral Norte Road is Being Paved with Foundry Sand Material
The users of Perimetral Norte Road will be able to travel, in the next days, in the first 50 meters paved with foundry sand material. The pavement, which is being made by the City Hall of Caxias do Sul, integrates the project for the re-utilization and recycling of foundry sand material in paving mixture, set up in a scientific and technological partnership agreement between Metalcorte Group – through its Foundry Unit – and the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS). The project has been authorized as an experiment by Fundação Estadual de Proteção Ambiental (Fepam) (State Foundation for Environmental Protection).
Foundry sand results from the production of cast parts. At Metalcorte Fundição ( Foundry), 80% of the produced cast parts use moulds made of green sand. After several operation cycles, the characteristics of the sand change, making it improper for molding and generating the foundry sand residue. Today, according to the Presidency Adviser of Metalcorte Group, Rubem Citton, the unit produces 450 ton of foundry sand material/ month, which is enough to help pave three kilometers of road. The sand is currently disposed of in an industrial embankment authorized by environmental bodies.
In addition to this partnership with UCS, Metalcorte Fundição also participates in other projects where the substantial re-utilization of these sands is expected.
Graduation of the First Group of Metalcorte`s Technical School
During the ceremony at Salão Por-do-Sol, located in the Aços Planos Units (Flat Sheets), the 15 students who completed the course on Industrial Mechanics received their diplomas, certified by ETFar/UCS. “It is very nice that 15 out of the 20 students who initiated the course made it to the end. Good people. We need people like this, who believe in Metalcorte`s project. Welcome, workmates”, said the President Director of Metalcorte, Osvaldo Voges, during his speech to the graduates. The entrepreneur also highlighted how important it is for companies to take over the social-educational project. Osvaldo stressed to the graduates and guests the importance of investing in education and training. “This was just a small portion of the path still ahead of them”. The director of EFTar/UCS, Celso Ferrarini, pointed out Metalcorte`s role in the development of the ETM and in the courses being offered. “ It provides the students with a sense of accomplishment when they say “ I know how to do this”. It also gives the sector coordinators and the company the assurance that they are doing the right thing”. At the moment, 50 students with ages between 16 and 25 years old are taking the three classes in progress. They are either children or relatives of Metalcorte`s employees. Metalcorte launches special line of electric motors for mining application
Metalcorte Group, through its Metalcorte – Motores Elétricos Eberle unit, launches two lines of electric motors for mining application. The Power Line Motors for Mining Application are powerful motors suitable for this application, with long useful life. They are available from 50 to 500 HP, frame sizes from 250 to 355 – H category high torque. Protection IPW55 (NBR6146). taconite labyrinth seal on bearings, calking compound on endshields fitting and glyptal impregnation on coil heads.
High-Efficiency Motors of Metalcorte Eberle bring gains in efficiency and savings in energy consumption.
The no. 2 company in the production of electric motors in Latin America, the Metalcorte Group presents, through its unit Metalcorte – Motores Elétricos Eberle, its line of High Efficiency (HE) motors used in a wide range of applications (operating machines, farming machines, tool machines, chemical and petrochemical industry, sugar and alcohol mills and others).
This High Efficiency motor performs the same functions as a conventional motor. However, due to its constructive features – low-loss magnetic plate, higher quantity of active material (iron and copper) and thermally-treated rotor – the HE motor brings gains in efficiency and reduced consumption of energy. In addition to providing the motor with extended life, these special design features allow the motor to operate during load peaks higher than the rated load, as a result of its service factor of 1,15. In order to evaluate return on investment when replacing standard motors for HE motors, Metalcorte counts on a department specialized in energetic efficiency improvement. Technicians assess the replacement of the motors according to power and to a previous application analysis. This ensures economy in raw-materials and reduced production costs, making the company more competitive. Metalcorte`s program of energetic efficiency improvement is another contribution to the Electric Power Conservation National Program, promoted by Procel/ Eletrobrás. Based in Caxias do Sul, RS, Metalcorte – Motores Elétricos Eberle markets its products to more than 30 countries. To boost its businesses in Argentina, Metalcorte opened, in the second period of 2005, its first branch abroad: the Metalcorte Argentina S.R.L., in Buenos Ayres, which distributes electric motors throughout the country and where it also offers service provision outlets in different locations.
